Alice Lu – Competitive Foil Coach
With more than 15 years of professional fencing experience including Chinese national women’s foil team member during 1985-87 in her home country China, Alice Lu moved to Canada in 1998. She has since put great passion and enthusiasm in the development fencing in Ontario. She started volunteer coaching at Ryerson Fencing Club and Ryerson University Fencing Team in 2000 and became the Head Coach in 2008. Since then, she has led the Varsity Team (Epee, Sabre and Foil) to win various medals, including three gold medals and team events in the OUA seasons. She was honoured with the OUA Coach of the Year Award for both the 2010-11 and 2012-13 seasons. She has her Level 1 NCCP certifications. Many of her students have represented Ontario and Canada in competitions in a national level and international level; Eleanor Harvey, one of her students, is the youngest National Women’s Foil Team member. Alice is the Regional Foil Development Coach in Ontario. Alice coaches the competitive foil fencers, and also coaches youth members looking to make the transition from Intermediate to Competitive members.
Joshua McGuire – Competitive Foil Coach
World Champion and two time Olympian. Josh was born in Hamilton, began fencing at age six. He was a Canadian national team member from 1998 to his retirement from competition in 2008 during which time he won a cadet world championship, placed third at Junior world championship and competed for Canada at the Athens and Beijing Olympics. Josh has been coaching in the GTA since 2008 and has been contributing to the development of Ontario athletes at training camps for over ten years. He has helped athletes reach the national and international level.

Stephen Willson – Epee Coach
Stephen has been fencing since the late 1980’s with participation at many different levels of competition. He was a member (and captain) of the Brock University varsity team and assistant coach there for the 1992-1993 and 1995-1996 seasons. He has been coaching fencing for the Ontario Modern Pentathlon Association since 2000 and is also a successful competitor in that sport with multiple top 3 finishes at the national and provincial levels. Stephen has his NCCP level I coaching certifications specific to fencing. He has experience coaching all levels and age groups.
Brily Lepine – Youth Coach and Operations Manager
Brily has been fencing for over 18 years, and has trained in a variety of fencing styles and weapons. He has trained under several international level coaches and marries many of their views into his own unique style. He has received NCCP training and competed at Provincial level tournaments. Believing that a thinking fencer will always win out he stresses the importance of not only the athletics of Fencing, but the mental agility required as well. Blending his love of fencing with dedication and humour, Brily coaches all Beginner programs, many Intermediate, and is involved with the running of the Advanced level courses as well. Brily is also in charge of the facility and day to day operations.
Kyle Foster– Director of Operations
Kyle has been fencing for the last 25+ years and competing at the varsity, provincial, national and international levels. He was Captain of the Western Varsity Team and won the OUAA Individual Gold medal in 1994 and won the Team Gold Medal in 1993 and 1994. Kyle went on to Coach the UWO Varsity team from 1994-1996. Kyle won the Governor General′s Championship in 1994. Kyle has been managing the Ryerson Varsity Fencing team since 2010.
Kyle has also won numerous medals at the Ontario Provincial Championships, including leading a CFA team to the back to back team Gold medals in 2004 and 2005 and winning the individual Silver medal in 1992, 1994, and 2005. Kyle has won The Master at Arms (Best combined result in Epee, Foil and Sabre) for the Ontario Provincial Championships in 2016 and 2017. Kyle is a three time National Champion (2014 VME, 2016 VMS and 2017 VMS). Kyle won 3 Medals representing Canada in Scotland at the Veterans Commonwealth Championships (Gold Team Epee, Bronze Individual Epee and Bronze Team Sabre) in 2014. Kyle defended his Team Epee Gold medal in 2016 at CVFC in Christchurch NZ as well as winning the Silver in Individual Epee.
Kyle has experience coaching fencing and will be filling in for some of our coaches as required and running the occasional program. Kyle also gives private Epee lessons.
Kyle will be managing the fencing and coaching programs at the Canadian Fencing Academy and will oversee all CFA operations.
